It was the scene of conspiratorial meetings between the noblemen of Alto Minho during the civil wars between the Liberals and the Miguelists in the 19th century.

Later, in the 20th century, it also became known as the ’Guard House’, as it was used by the GNR between 1950 and 2006. It still has a cell which the current owners have restored.
