It was integrated into the municipality of Mealhada on December 31, 1853, by deannexation of the municipality of Coimbra.
The village of Pampilhosa was elevated to the category of village in 1985.
Pampilhosa is an important railway centre and still retains its railway station, of great importance at a national level, where the Northern (between Lisbon and Porto), Beira Alta (between Pampilhosa and Vilar Formoso) and the Figueira da Foz branch (between Pampilhosa and the latter city, via Cantanhede) intersect. The latter, deactivated since 2009 and no longer rails.
It was important in the ceramics industry at the beginning of the twentieth century, but the clay industry has become almost completely extinct and of the once large factories of the beginning of the century, today only ruins remain.
Most of its population comes from other places, because since the beginning of the twentieth century, as a result of the junction of the train lines, the Beira Alta Railway company, and the Portuguese Railways company, there has been an exponential population growth. It was due to the installation of Industries in the area; ceramics, chemicals, wood processing industries, as the need for labour was enormous, as well as the demand for employment.
In 1947 the two companies merged (as it was called at the time).
Once upon a time, the Pampilhosa station was the second most important in the country.
After 1974, all the old industries progressively became extinct, however a new industrial park was built from 1997 onwards, elsewhere and in other industrial and commercial branches.
The BA61 steam locomotive from the 1920s, unique in the world, is in Pampilhosa.
Popular festivals: Santa Marinha (patron saint), Saint John, Saint Joaquim, Lord of Lombo and Saint Anthony.
