’The ’princess of Lima’ rose to the city much later, on January 20, 1848, by the hand of D. Maria II, at a time when it was already an important maritime trading post that was later reinforced with shipbuilding and cod fishing. The greatest symbol of this land’s relationship with the sea is the sea-facing statue of a woman with undulating clothes and a caravel in her hands.
